The inspiration of this project comes from a strange and mysterious plant, devil claw, a harpagophytum which is known for its medical benefit for healing back or osteoarthritis pain. The pattern design and shapes process is influenced by the narrow form and dry skin texture of the plant.. Each ring is cast in sterling silver and liver of sulfur is used to emphasize the texture of the devil claw pattern on the body of the ring with the high contrast of the polished pattern and the oxidized sterling silver underneath. The form of the rings is based on the skinny Y-like natural shape of the devil claw plant. It gets its name from the appearance of its fruit which is covered in hooks to attach to animals in order to spread its seeds. I modified the ring scales to create different versions to create a series of DevilClaw rings.
