This 18k white gold couple pendant is a wedding gift for a Hong Kong actor/singer Joe Tay. The style and concept of this project is poetic and represent his well-known song in 80s 酒杯敲钢琴. My inspiration is based on the song lyrics “STAY AWAY LET ME BE LET ME CRY, I'M A MAN WON'T LET YOU SEE ME CRY” inspire me to use piano structure to create a locket that contains the wine glass. The song using duo man and women vocals to create melodic contrast and emotions by singing about loneliness and rejection of love. For instance, I separate the wine glass and piano into two pendants to represent the characters of the song in masculine piano form and the delicate wine glass shape. Furthermore, the functionality of the piano locket and the decoration create the harmonic motifs between the wine glass and piano.
The wire frame structure of the piano is inspired by the lines of piano sheet. This form and structure create a strong positive and negative spaces contrast and connect to the idea of playing piano and reading music. The columns on the piano are also follow the bold bars lines on music sheet, the bubble set diamonds on the piano structure create movement and rhythm for the design. I used tear drop and dots as my major motifs for the wine glass and piano. The tear drop represents both tear and wine, and the dots are symbolizing music notes. The design of the piano top is clean and elegant with water-drop line and wine glass symbol.
The wine glass pendant is rotated into a tiled angle to create the spilling effect when the user wears it. The edge of the glass also has a water drop shape to symbolize the wine drop to match with the tiled angle.
