Altarpiece

The word sacrifice speaks personally to all of us on different levels, but rarely do we link the word to ‘motherhood,’ the greatest and most thankless sacrifice of all. Mothers are the one who are responsible for providing, caring for and shaping their children into outstanding individuals that will enter society. It is expected of them and rarely do their children even thank them for everything they had to give up bringing new life into this world. They lose their own identity to create a new one.

The client requested a custom design necklace that could showcase his mother’s sacrifice and to show that it was now his turn to take care of and protect his mother now that he was old enough.

For this necklace, the Virgin Mary holding baby Jesus sits on the middle pendant, symbolizing the client’s mother and him in his vulnerable youth. On both sides of the Virgin Mary, two tigers are separated on each side as an altarpiece format to bring out the main character of the story, ‘mother.’ Both tigers are facing the mother and although tigers are not the original creatures in the story of the Virgin Mary, the client chose them to symbolize strength and courage, both needed to be the protector of his family and to show devotion and appreciation for his mother.
